I am not big into sharing dreams because on most occasions I feel that God is speaking only to me personally through them. But about eight years ago, I had a profound dream that was definitely not personal, and I feel that its message is relevant for this time.
In my dream, I was witnessing an enormous group of people being let out of slavery. As I looked at them, I could see they were damaged from their time in slavery.
Some of them, for example, had eyes that had dropped below the eye socket so that they were either blind or partially blind. When they were taken out of slavery they were all put on a boat and sent out to sea.
I could see that the ocean was very stormy and unsettled, and I was inwardly aware that the boat remained on the ocean for quite a long period, maybe six months or more.
While I was looking at the boat being fiercely tossed about, a message was broadcast over the boat’s loudspeaker. The words spoken were, “Your security is the only thing that matters.”
When I had the dream I felt that it meant that God was soon going to take His own people out of slavery in the world. But where He was leading them was not to a serene place, but a place where their faith would be sorely tested.
It’s interesting that even after the long period at sea, God did not calm the storm or give any visible sign of His presence. He simply spoke the comforting words: “your security is the only thing that matters.”
Right now, many believers may feel that God has abandoned them in the face of this terrible storm. But nothing could be further from the truth. In His Word, we are given so many promises:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the child of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands…” (Isaiah 49:15)
As the world around us becomes more and more unsettled, it is only by constantly feeding and meditating on His Word that we will find “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding [and] will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:7)
And, just as Jesus healed blind eyes, through His Word He will open our spiritual eyes to understand the events around us in the light of His eternal wisdom.
One extra thought regarding the part in the dream where those bought out of slavery were damaged… blind and partially blind. I know there is also a whole lot of meaning in that as well.
The people that God has taken out of the world are a broken people, some are already in Christ but partially blind because they haven’t been instructed properly in the Word of God.
And many are not yet in Christ because they are still blind to the true Gospel message because of false teaching in the Church.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph 2:8-9)
The true Gospel alone has the power to open the eyes of the blind to the truth of Christ and bring them to salvation.
